Genetic analysis

The research at GenØk is divided into four research areas:

  • Molecular and microbial research
  • Virology and vaccine research
  • Ecotoxicology, ecology and ecosystems
  • Society, ecology and ethics

Based on the precautionary principle, GenØk is conducting gene ecology research and research based activities that contribute to safer use of biotechnologies. As a national competence center, we have a responsibility to investigate any adverse effects genetically modified organisms (GMOs) may have on health, environment and society.

GenØks biosafety research is well founded within GenØk strategy, which is to:

  • Establish methods and model systems for detection of adverse effects of GMOs
  • Survey and monitor ecosystems and societies for GMO impacts
  • Be foresighted into novel and emerging biotechnologies, methods and products
