Rosa Binimelis has a PhD in Environmental Science (Ecological Economics) at the Autonomous University of Barcelona. Her research fields include the socio-economic aspects of genetically modified organisms (GMOs), including the coexistence of GMOs with conventional and organic agriculture. She has also worked on food sovereignty and gender, and alternative food systems. Her actual research is about how to integrate socio-economic considerations in the decision-making process related to GMOs, focusing on the relationship between beekeeping and GMOs as a case study.

Currently she holds a Beatriu de Pinós fellowship funded by the “Comissionat per a Universitats i Recerca del Departament d’Innovació, Universitats i Empresa de la Generalitat de Catalunya” and the COFUND programme-Marie Curie Actions under the FP7 of the European Communities.
